Etymology (EN): Gimbal, alteration of gemel “twin,” from M.E., gemelles, from O.Fr. gemeles (Fr. jumeau, jumelle), from L. gemellus, diminutive of geminus “twin;” cf. Pers. Kermâni dialect jomoli “twin;” → Gemini.
